Shake your Marinis, baby!

Bresciano, Grella back A-League bid

Peter Desira
The other two bids are headed by Colin DeLutis and Jim Marinis, but neither was willing to reveal details because they are yet to meet the FFA to make their official pitch.
Marinis is a former director of South Melbourne soccer club but said his bid had no association with South and no ethnic association.
Marinis has six partners in the bid.

Well, isn't that fabulous. Eh? What? Oh, just a short entry while I'm procrastinating to let everyone know that at least Desira is on the ball, in that he has Marinis as a former director of South rather than as a former president. And he spells Marinis correctly. Paying attention Silkstone? Anyway, this just looks like further proof that Marinis isn't in it for South any more. Indeed, rumours flying around indicate that Marinis is keen on getting to the A-League with or without South in tow. So now that looks to be all sorted, and that he probably won't get the Melbourne license anyway, good luck to him. As long as South is still here in some shape or form, why should anyone hold a grudge against the dreamers of dreams? They do make the world a more interesting place after all.

  1. Marinis is (was and always has been) too "high-level" for all the petty bulldust that seems to settle around my beloved SMFC... he's a big picture man with big dreams - and he has the ability to make those dreams reality.
Marinis wants A-League. Marinis will get A-League. Whether or not that is the second Melbourne team, an existing team or a new team from some other part of the country... Marinis will be there.

You gotta love someone how knows what they want, and how to get it.
    Respect for Jim Marinis.

    2. LOL! Anonymous, I hope that you haven't been holding on to this grudge for this long, and just stumbled back here by accident.

    3. Is the same Jim Marinis who attended the David Hill sponsored talkfest about the future of the game back in circa 1995? The one who said he was half Greek and half Macedonian?

    4. I doubt it, but who knows? This Jim Marinis I believe is originally from Western Australia. He used to be a good source of material - check the label.

    5. Already done all that. I did a search on the web for his mug shot, and I think its him. The fact that he is from WA AND would state that he is half Greek/half Macedonian makes sense (lots of 'south of the border' FYROMians there).

He was basically pushing the same line that the FFA is now and David Hill back then, about making Soccer more accessible to everyone.

I actually took two days off work to go the symposium!

    7. Not much to say. I was chummy with the guys who did the Studs Up magazine. I spoke briefly to Peter Abraam. Remember, I was on board with 'change' back then!

All that I remember was that soon after, Hill axed Heidelberg, Parramatta, and Brunswick. The thing is, they were the 3 bottom teams! If we had proper relegation, a couple may have dropped anyway. But I suppose the clubs were pissed off at the message that they were not wanted.

  8. Jim was in the changing rooms after the match patting backs and smiling big time. Read into that what you like.
