Friendly this Saturday vs Goulburn Valley Suns

Great news everyone, finally some open doors, South Melbourne pre-season friendly action. The catch though, is that you'll have to be in Shepparton by 11:00AM.

So, um, yeah, that's me out.

But if you're really keen, as part of its week in Shepparton, South Melbourne is playing Goulburn Valley Suns at the Shepparton Sports Precinct at 11:00 this Saturday.

  1. 3-0 South. Goals from Gerrie Sylaidos, Daniel Clark and new signing Henry Hore. Two of those goals came from penalties.

    1. I was going to make a crack about not knowing whether there were any shenanigans over who got to take the penalties, but then remembered that the Schroen-Pep incident was like, not last year, but in like, 2019.

  2. Just going through the ozfootball site and they had Mustafa Mustafa and Ibraim Ibraimi (but they don't count!), Simon Storey, Kris Kalifatidis, Malcolm Manley (now that's a good one!), Chris Kent, Billy Bergman, Tony Turner, Alun Evans, Branko Buljevic, Stuart Stevenson, Michael Michalokopoulos, George Goutzioulas.

Henry Hore is a great addition.

    1. Manley was a strange signing on a number of fronts. He'd basically retired at 23 because of a serious knee injury. He ended up trying to play again in South Africa and Australia. We signed him for the last three games of the 1977 season, I assume with thoughts of keeping him into 1978. Passed away last year.

A few notes on comments.

We've had a lot of fun over the years with my freewheeling comments policy, but all good things must come to an end. Therefore I will no longer be approving comments that contain personal abuse of any sort.

Still, if your post doesn't get approved straight away, it's probably because I haven't seen it yet.

As usual, publication of a comment does not mean endorsement of its content.
