Bill Fleming Medal - who was your player of the year?

Doesn't look like much of a medal. Photo:
Melbourne Knights official site.
After the farce of not being asked by the FFV to provide my nominees for the media's player of the year (and associated awards), despite having an FFV media pass, this year they've sent me the emails for my opinion. Thank Ganesha for that.

They operate via a 3-2-1 set up. Now, I'm not going to tell you who I'm voting for (for the record last year I would have voted for Andy Vlahos, while the winner was Richie Cardozo), but I would be interested to hear who my readership thinks was the player of the year.

So leave your comments - with some supporting evidence if possible - in the comments section. Entries of comedic value from people that only watched South games are welcome, but serious replies are what we're mostly looking for. It doesn't even have to be a South player (guffaw).

There are also awards for article and photo of the year. Again, I have some in mind, but if you've come across any that you think are worthwhile, let us know about them.

Apart from that. let's hope Michael Lynch doesn't get to present the award this year.

  1. Fun fact - only two South players have ever won the Bill Fleming Medal - Jimmmy Pyrgolios in 1971, and Jimmy Armstrong in 1974.

  2. I can see this entry is going gangbusters.

  3. My 3 - 2 - 1
    Ben Surey - Knights
    Hayden Doyle - Oakleigh
    James Kalifatidis - Northcote

  4. Hayden Doyle doesn't get enough respect. He and Diaco carried that team through much of 2012, one doing the hard work, the other finishing it off.

  5. Correct, Doyle carries Oakleigh more than RVP carried Arsenal

  6. South were so middle of the road for 2012, I can't think of a serious or a joke suggestion.

  7. It is quite hard to pick one because you can think as the most valuable player in the team but if the team also has a lot of great players. So the best player has assistance and make it easier for him.

A few notes on comments.

We've had a lot of fun over the years with my freewheeling comments policy, but all good things must come to an end. Therefore I will no longer be approving comments that contain personal abuse of any sort.

Still, if your post doesn't get approved straight away, it's probably because I haven't seen it yet.

As usual, publication of a comment does not mean endorsement of its content.
