Just in case anyone apart from myself had the intention of using public transport to get to the game at Kingston Heath tomorrow, here's a heads up - the match is kicking off at 8:30PM, not Bentleigh's usual kick off time of 8:15PM.
It may very well be a very tight run to the bus stop back to Cheltenham station after the game. I'm not risking it. See you next week at a more civilised time, at a more public transport friendly venue.
Speaking of public transport. With the Metro due to be completed late next year, it’s interesting that the time it takes to walk to our ground is 13 minutes, whereas the time it takes to walk to MCG from Richmond is 9 minutes. Sadly, I feel the difference is a bit of a threshold difference
ReplyDeleteI've walked once from Lakeside to the Domain interchange, felt like it took longer than 13 minutes. Probably depends on which exit you take out of Lakeside to a certain extent.
DeleteMetro tunnel isn't due to be completed until 2025. They've begun to bring the rails to the site, but apparently that was mostly photo op, as there's still a long way to go before they can actually install them.
Assuming that Sunbury and Pakenham/Cranbourne services will no longer run through the loop under any circumstances once the tunnel is operational, it will make trips to both the MCG and Docklands less convenient than is currently the case.
As for trips to Lakeside, the major difference for me will be catching the no. 12 tram from Town Hall station rather than from Southern Cross.

DeleteWell, it won't be as good for footy, but it'll be about the same for South home matches, and much of a muchness for South away games - in some cases actually better, because I won't have to change trains for games at Thunder or Oakleigh, assuming we're all still in the same league in 2025.

ReplyDeleteYes, but at present either on the way to Lakeside or on the way home, I have to go through the Loop, which at night often means an idle train sitting at Flinders Street for several minutes. With the Metro Tunnel, no loop, and probably (hopefully) a higher frequency service.
DeleteOh! Just shows you that there are still plenty of limitations with what people would assume would be the better aspects of Public Transport in Melbourne. Getting into and out of the CBD very easily.
