Much consternation about the possibilities
I have no children, but I suspect at one level that supporting South is like being the parent of a rowdy toddler - you enjoy the short bursts of peace and quiet while they last and try to love them no matter what. The rumour has been circulating that former FFV employee George Angelopoulos has already been given the job, or is at the very least the front-runner for the role of general manager, and this caused a certain level of disquiet amongst certain combustible people. Rather than pour out a deluge of opinion here and now I'm going to wait and see what comes of this whole thing.

A few notes on comments.
We've had a lot of fun over the years with my freewheeling comments policy, but all good things must come to an end. Therefore I will no longer be approving comments that contain personal abuse of any sort.
Still, if your post doesn't get approved straight away, it's probably because I haven't seen it yet.
As usual, publication of a comment does not mean endorsement of its content.
Yes - I've also heard he was approached by the club, appointed and then shafted.
ReplyDeleteActually - I heard the same thing. I know for a fact that it was the South Board that approached him about the GM role. After advertising the gig, they offered him the job (which he apparently accepted) only for the board to this week change its mind.
ReplyDeleteDid he have the support of the entire board? Are the board not allowed to change their position prior to the signing of contracts?
ReplyDeleteapproached, appointed and shafted.
ReplyDeletei like the sound of this.
Karmas a bitch eh ?
You say karma, but it wouldn't be that amusing if the club finds itself defending a litigation suit for unfair dismissal! Remember, clubs are employers, and as such need to operate within state and/or federal laws. I don't want to bang on, but the board should have handled this better.
ReplyDeleteThe club will not be dictated to.
ReplyDeleteDictated to by who? What's that got to do with what Tom has written?
ReplyDeleteLitigation???
ReplyDeleteShow us a contract!
Akou malakies.
Don't know what you mean by that KOD? Anyway, what's done is done! Time for everyone to move on!
ReplyDeleteMate ur pissin in the wind.
ReplyDeleteTom AKA George Angelopoulos
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Tom, or should I say George
ReplyDeleteLeo Athanasakis approached George, and after several meetings with him, the whole board and other interested parties, George was given the job.
ReplyDeleteWho were these other interested parties? Did George sign a contract? Was the board unanimous in the alleged decision to give George the job?
ReplyDeleteIt seems Tom has changed identity and become Lou ! What's your next alias ? Spiro? Jack? Con? LOL !!!
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous - you really are a fool. For the record I am not George, Lou, Jack or Jill. I live in Mill Park and work in the legal profession. I have merely put forward my view on the topic. It's too bad that you choose to hide behind a shadow darkness.
ReplyDeletePaul - I really appreciate your post, but alas, this is now old news and the more we continue to discuss, the more fools this post seems to attract.
I can assure all contributors that I am not George, Lou, Fred, Max, Jack or Jill. For the record my name IS Tom and like all of you, I am a proud South supporter.
ReplyDeletePaul - this was a very good post and congrats to you for opening the debate. Unfortunately the discussion seems to be losing its way.
On that note, good luck with it people and Happy New Year to all!
I'm actually surprised that the discussion was as civil as it was. For the record, based on on the recent history between George Angelopoulos and South Melbourne, I would certainly be classified as someone who would be against his appointment as general manager.
ReplyDeleteBut regardless of the way it turned out, I am just as concerned at the processes undertaken in seeking to find a general manager. Much of how we run our club has improved out of sight these past few years - but too often we are still prone to doing things in the old, operationally suspect manner on crucial matters.
Already something new to add to the list of questions for next year's AGM... or the next time I encounter one of the relevant board members.
