Friendly on Wednesday vs Port, at Lakeside

This Wednesday at 7:30PM, it's a case of getting in while you can - the club has announced an open doors pre-season friendly against Port Melbourne at Lakeside. No need for special handshakes, secret codes, or knowing the bloke on the door. I don't know if the social club will be in operation.

  1. Hey Paul,

Hope you had a decent Christmas and a Happy New Year? - sorry I know its a little late but I've been on holidays for a while

How was the friendly last night? Any of the trialists showing any promise? Is there any truth to the rumors of "the Rock" hanging up the gloves? As you mention in a previous post the silence from the club (at least online) is deafening.....

It's almost Feb and the smell of vanquished foes and wet grass (or in some cases astroturf and black rubber pellets) beckons.

    Can't wait.

    1. Hello KT, good to see you back and keen for another year. New post on the Port game is now up.

South's main media man is back from overseas next week, so hopefully there's an increase in info from the club.

  2. Cheers Paul.

Read your post and as always, greatly appreciated :)
This year is shaping up to be a watershed moment for soccer in Australia I think. What with all the malarkey about FFA congress, 2nd division, expansion of the league etc etc....

A bit of anecdotal evidence from my dealings with "hoi polloi" over the last 6 months is that the average soccer fan in this country is finally open to South coming into the top flight. Have had people in traffic wind down the windows upon seeing my South Melbourne sticker to comment "That's Hellas right? You guys really need to get into the A-League ASAP, it would make the competition a lot more exciting"
Not a Nielsen Poll by any stretch of the imagination but its happened on a couple of occasions now and, if nothing else, certainly make me feel positive about the changing of general attitudes towards us.

    Forza Hellas.

A few notes on comments.

We've had a lot of fun over the years with my freewheeling comments policy, but all good things must come to an end. Therefore I will no longer be approving comments that contain personal abuse of any sort.

Still, if your post doesn't get approved straight away, it's probably because I haven't seen it yet.

As usual, publication of a comment does not mean endorsement of its content.
